The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesić, announced that he will officially resign tomorrow due to the accident in Novi Sad, when 14 people died and three were seriously injured in the collapse of the railway station canopy.

Vesić said that he does not accept the blame for the accident that happened, but that he is submitting his resignation as a responsible man.

Vesić said that he offered his resignation to Prime Minister Miloš Vučević on the same day the accident happened, and that he communicated his intention to the President of the Republic.

"I cannot accept the blame for the death of 14 people because neither I nor the people who work with me have the slightest bit of responsibility for the tragedy that happened," Vesić pointed out and added that he is resigning as a responsible man for moral reasons because the accident happened in the department which leads.

Vesić was among the officials whose resignation was demanded after the fall of the canopy.

The united Novi Sad opposition has demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, and the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, writes N1.

Vesić said that all the documents related to the project were issued before he became a minister and that only the final project for the execution of works was done during his mandate, which he said was not even approved by the ministry he heads.

He called on the authorities to determine who is responsible and who in the circle of designer, contractor, supervisor, investor did not do the work that caused the death of 14 innocent people.

"Thus, the stain will be removed from the names of many people who have been mentioned in public," Vesić pointed out.

He also asked why the Railway Infrastructure of Serbia did not maintain the station in the past decades and years, which according to him was their legal obligation.

At the end of his address to the media, he had a personal message, both for his political opponents and for those from his own party who urged him to accept responsibility.

"I cannot allow anyone to point the finger at me that I am guilty of the death of any child, without evidence, without any indication, just because they are allowed to," said Vesić in tears.

He repeated that he is submitting his resignation as a responsible man because such a tragedy should not have happened.

"I became a minister as a member of the SNS at the suggestion of Aleksandar Vučić. I returned to politics after a 10-year break because of Vučić, and I will be there while he is engaged in politics. I say this because of those in my party who have called me to show responsibility in recent days, and they are not responsible for anything. I have responsibility and honor, and I will do my best to show how much they do not. I am a proud member of the SNS and will remain so even now that I am not a minister," said Vesić.

He thanked Vučić for his trust.
