The citizens' protest in front of the City Hall in Novi Sad has ended, where thousands of citizens gathered to demand the resignation of those responsible for the accident in which 1 people died on November 14.
The protest started peacefully, but ended with numerous incidents, broken windows, tear gas and several arrests.
One of the organizers of the protest, Miran Pogačar, said that the violence was not planned, but that those responsible did not resign in time and that they should do so as soon as possible.
At the protest, the citizens demanded the resignation of those responsible for the accident at the train station, especially Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and Novi Sad Mayor Milan Đurić.
Earlier at the protest, it was said that the authorities were given 48 hours to fulfill the demands and submit their resignations, otherwise the demonstrations would be moved to Belgrade.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, also came to Novi Sad, who addressed only his supporters at the SNS headquarters and said that all those responsible for the accident and today's violence will be brought to justice.
Police in Novi Sad arrested citizens, while masked young men continued to demolish the City Hall, reports N1.
That media reports that the Vojvodina politician Goran Ješić was detained because of a conflict with the plainclothes police.
Member of the Novi Sad City Assembly Miran Pogačar was also detained, reports Danas.
Near the City Hall, in the passage of Lajoš Zilahi, there was a police force with full equipment for breaking up demonstrations, the N1 reporter reported.
After several hours of chaos in front of the City Hall in Novi Sad, on its ground floor where the police are stationed, a fire broke out, the N1 team noted.
As reported by the media, this was preceded by the breaking of the windows on the side of the City Hall, after which the demonstrators hung the banner "Let Serbia stop, let the prosecutor go" on one of the windows.
Some of the crowd threw firecrackers into the building, to which the police immediately responded with tear gas.
N1 reports that young men with hoods throw stones at the City Hall all the time, some of them climbed the window and removed and broke the video surveillance camera from the City Hall.
The police threw tear gas again.

The civil protest due to the death of 14 people at the railway station in Novi Sad began shortly after 18.00:XNUMX pm in that city, and at the very beginning a minute of silence was held for all those who died.
The crowd then chanted "Arrest the gang", "Gang, gang" and "Resignation, resignation".
It was said at the meeting that this tragedy should not have happened, especially after the crimes in Ribnikar, Dubona, Mali Orašje, the mine, at the toll booth and the helicopter, and that accidents are repeated because there is no responsibility.
The message was sent that Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, Mayor Milan Đurić, Minister Goran Vesić and President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić are responsible for the tragedy, because they created a society without responsibility.
Once again, it was requested that those responsible be arrested and punished, that the secret contracts with Chinese and other companies be published immediately, and that the prime minister and the mayor resign.
The gathered then started to form a column that will head towards the City Hall, and in the column there is also a tank with the words "drinking water" on it, but in fact it is full of feces and was "delivered" in front of the City Hall.
In front of the improvised stage, a banner was unfurled that read "You are guilty, you will answer," and the participants carried photos of the dead.
Even before the start of the protest, as shown by television N1, the students left red handprints in front of the Criminal Court in Novi Sad and put up a banner written in red: "Arbitrate, don't resign, gang", as well as "Both your shoes and your hands are bloody".
Incident in front of SNS premises, broken glass
In Novi Sad, there was an incident in front of the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), when a protester tried to break the glass.
He was wearing a helmet and a mask, and when asked by the N1 reporter why he was doing that, he replied that he was not a provocateur, and that he did not want to take off the mask because of the police.
Several guys in black with masks had previously thrown bottles and a brick at the premises of the ruling party.
From time to time there is a verbal conflict between the citizens and the security guard protecting the premises of SNS, and some citizens shout "Murderers, murderers".
Some citizens estimate that among the demonstrators who are protesting the death of 14 citizens, there are provocateurs who are tasked with causing incidents and endangering the protest.
A column of citizens who have gathered in Novi Sad and are demanding the arrest of those responsible for the tragedy is moving along the Boulevard of Liberation towards the City Hall, and at the head of the column is the banner "You are guilty, you will answer".
Vučić: No one has beaten Serbia and the Serbian tricolor, so they won't either
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, posted on his Instagram account a video showing protesters in Novi Sad removing the Serbian flag from the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) on the Boulevard of Liberation in this city.
He added that this speaks of how many and what kind of Serbs we are talking about.
"Our Serbian tricolor was destroyed, hidden and taken down by all those who did not love Serbia. Tonight, in Novi Sad, this is being done by those who tell us that they love Serbia more than us, the decent citizens of this country. No one has defeated Serbia and the Serbian tricolor, so they won't either," announced Vučić.
Otherwise, the demonstrators just took off the flag and took it with them.
The Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, assessed that the Serbian tricolor was "destroyed, hidden and removed by all those who did not love Serbia" at the protest in Novi Sad.
"Tonight, in Novi Sad, this is what those who tell us that they love Serbia more than us, the decent citizens of this country, are doing. No one has defeated Serbia and the Serbian tricolor, and neither will they," Vučević said on Instagram.
