The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said tonight that everyone who participated in the violence at the protest in Novi Sad will be prosecuted and punished, and he compared the protest to Nazi attacks on dissenters.
He said on Instagram that while mourning for the victims continues, some have organized protests that are not commemorative, but, as he said, "hysterical attacks on dissenters."
He said that the attack on the City Hall and the police officers was ongoing, and that the Serbian tricolor was trampled.
"You have the right to be inhuman, but you don't have the right to threaten everyone else who thinks differently," said Vučić.
He added that the police are very reserved out of respect for the victims, but that one should not think that violence is allowed.
"All those who participated in this will be punished, they will be held accountable and prosecuted, and it must never happen again that something reminiscent of Nazi attacks on dissenters from 90 years ago happens in our country," said Vučić.
Pajtić: The government put in its own people to destroy, the government is changing in Belgrade
Professor of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, Bojan Pajtić, said tonight that the government obviously had people involved in the protest who also attacked the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party in the previous days and could easily identify them if it wanted to determine who the perpetrators were because security cameras recorded everything.
"And now we have it, similar to when there was a protest in Belgrade after the election was stolen. We also have a regime that is not ready to talk to the citizens, not ready to accept their demands," said Pajtić, for TV N1, during the protest, citing that breaking up is not the organizer's decision.
He also pointed out that the resignations of the republican government cannot be obtained in Novi Sad, but it is resolved in Belgrade - in Nemanja Street, that is, in Andrićev Venac.
As he added, in the coming days it will be necessary to organize protests in Belgrade, blockades, but breaking them up will not solve any problem.
