The Secretary General of the Council for Regional Cooperation (RCC), Majlinda Bregu, said today in Sarajevo that in a rapidly changing world, cooperation is the greatest advantage of the Western Balkans.
"After six years, I can say that the region has never been so free and so aware of the importance of cooperation as it is today. We owe this situation to a large extent to the process of European integration," said the outgoing general secretary at the 54th meeting of the RCC Board.
The participants of the Committee congratulated Breg on the successes she brought during her mandate within the regional cooperation program and thanked her for her commitment, steadfastness and perseverance in leading and developing cooperation in the region.
Bregu also said that in the previous six years, the region approved or signed about twenty agreements or declarations, including mobility programs, the RCC announced.
"We have transformed the regional economic integration of the Western Balkans into broader socio-economic cooperation," added Bregu.
She wished the next general secretary, Amer Kapetanović, who will take over the position on January 1, 2025, a successful continuation of the important work within the framework of regional cooperation.
The RCC board, chaired by the general secretary of the organization, is convened three times a year, and preparations for the meeting are made by the general secretary in cooperation with the chairman of the Cooperation Process in Southeast Europe.
The board provides operational guidance and oversees the work of the organization between annual meetings.
