Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today that "absolutely every" document related to the reconstruction of the railway station in Novi Sad should be available to the public.
Vučić said that it is important to explain "clearly, transparently and precisely" the causes of the collapse of the canopy of that station last Friday, in which 14 people died and three were seriously injured.
"I read 1.000 pages, but I don't know what to say. You can't legally publish something because of the other party to the contract, but everything else should absolutely be made available to the public. I'm sure that the prosecution and the courts will later be able and have to give the right answer," he said. Vučić told the journalists of the Serbian media in Budapest, where he participated in the Summit of the European Political Community.
He assessed that "there was no corruption" regarding the reconstruction of the railway station in Novi Sad.
"Wherever there was corruption and if we could have discovered it, I would be happy if those responsible were immediately sent to prison," he said.
Vučić added that he expects the political responsibility of "some other people" for the accident, but also assessed that the most important criminal responsibility is "those who could bear the blame for what happened".
