The protest in the center of Belgrade, which demands responsibility for the death of 14 people in Novi Sad, is coming to an end, citizens are slowly dispersing, and traffic is normalizing in Kneza Miloša Street.
Citizens walked to the building of the Presidency of Serbia on Andrićevo venc, where demands were submitted to the National Assembly of Serbia, including the resignation of Prime Minister Miloš Vučević.
At the head of the column was a large banner with the inscription "Corruption kills", reported the journalist of the Beta agency.
As the N1 reporter reports, the protest passed without a single incident.
The Archive of Public Assemblies of Serbia announced that between 9.000 and 10.000 people gathered at tonight's protest in front of the Government of Serbia.
Between 18 and 20 people were present at the protest near the Presidency building at around 6.000:7.000.
The Archives of Public Assemblies of Serbia note that, due to unfavorable weather conditions, it was not possible to make an assessment by individual counting, so instead it was done by field recording of the density and occupied area.
"At the Government building, about 10.500 square meters were covered, with an average density of about 0,9 people per square meter, while in front of the Presidency, about 4.000 square meters were covered, with an average density of about 1,6 people per square meter," it was stated in announcement.
The demands were previously read out at a protest in front of the Serbian Government building by deputy Borislav Novaković, who reminded that the resignation of the mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, is also being demanded.
The publication of all secret contracts related to the reconstruction of the Railway Station in Novi Sad, as well as the arrest of those responsible for the "murder of 14 people", is also demanded.
Among the demands are the release of all those detained after the recent protests in Novi Sad, as well as extraordinary control of infrastructure projects that have been carried out in the last ten years.
The requests will be submitted to the Presidency because, as Novaković said, that is the right address.
If the government ignores the demands of the protest, the opposition MPs will submit a request to the Parliament to hold a session where confidence in the government of Miloš Vučević would be discussed, it was announced.
The protest began with the reading of the names of the victims and a minute of silence, and the presenter Smiljan Banjac addressed the crowd and reminded them of what happened.
"They didn't travel, but disappeared under the rebar, concrete and dust of that ominous canopy. It could have been any of you," he said, while those gathered in front of the government shouted "murderers, prisoners".
A little before 18:XNUMX p.m., the walk started towards the Presidency of Serbia, where the demands of the citizens were once again read.
N1 reports that in addition to political responsibility, the public in Serbia also demands that all those who are in any way - through action or inaction - guilty of the fall of the canopy and the tragedy that occurred be held criminally accountable.
The organizers of the rally have provided a security service, which is deployed around the Government building, a large number of plainclothes police can be seen at the rally.
Dacic: The police will be restrained, in Novi Sad they could have dispersed the gathering immediately
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, last night called on those who are organizing the protest in Belgrade to refrain from violence and incursions into state institutions and endangering people's safety, stressing that the police will not allow it.
"Tomorrow we have a demonstration, the police, as always, will behave with restraint so as not to cause incidents, but we call on everyone to refrain from violence. We will not allow intrusion into state institutions, endangering people," he stressed.
He said that tomorrow's meeting has been announced and that it was announced by the members of the opposition led by Srđan Milivojević.
He said that today is also a public holiday in Serbia - Armistice Day in the First World War, and that more than a thousand policemen will have to be outside their homes and separated from their families.
Milivojević: We will not respond to violence with violence
People's deputy in the Serbian Parliament Srđan Milivojević (Democratic Party) says that the resignation of Vučić is not requested, because the opposition "must respect the Constitution, if the president of the country does not respect it".
"It is the tenth day since the tragedy in Novi Sad, when 14 people died, and three were injured and are still in critical condition, when the canopy at the railway station fell. The authorities arrest, but not those responsible for the accident, but those who protest because of injustice. Opposition has scheduled a protest in Belgrade. Is there a better organization plan than the one in Novi Sad? How can we put pressure on the authorities at the same time, so that the culprits are really accountable," Milivojević said
Milivojević believes that there will be no violence at today's protest, because, as he said, that does not suit Vučić.
"We will not respond to violence with violence. Because violence is Aleksandar Vučić's turf, the opposition would certainly be defeated there. On the other hand, Vučić has an unlimited arsenal of evil with which he will defend the government. We will set up a security service in front of the Representation," said Milivojević.
