The Prime Minister of Serbia Miloš Vučević and the President of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik said in Trebinje that they are continuing with activities on the construction of the airport in that city, in the extreme south of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to previous announcements, Serbia should invest around 50 million euros in the construction of the Trebinje airport.

Croatia opposes the construction of that airport, because it believes that it will be built in the protection zone of the Ombla River, which, they claim, would threaten the source of drinking water for the approximately 80.000 inhabitants of Dubrovnik, located thirty kilometers from Trebinje.

During his visit to Trebinje, Vučević said that the construction of the airport should complete the tourist offer of Trebinje, reminding that Serbia continues to financially support the development of the old city center in that city.

"I understood from the representative of the Airport of Serbia what the job is for our Government regarding the further process and expropriation, rounding up the land and preparations for the development of the main project. And there is no stopping, we should work on that, of course, respecting those international standards and rules that apply to everyone ", said the Prime Minister of Serbia.

The President of the RS Milorad Dodik, after the conversation with Vucevic, said that "the expropriation of land for the construction of the airport is running its course".

"And we have procedures that bind us to the countries in contact. We expect different opinions from Croatia yet, we don't have any of these delays from Montenegro, but all the deadlines expire by June, when Croatia has to declare itself about it and we start, we believe, very quickly to the preparation of the actual construction," said Dodik.

Recently, the Assembly of the RS also accelerated the process of land expropriation by amending the law.

The planned construction of the runway and accompanying facilities is in the Taleži settlement.

Trebinje Airport would be located less than 50 kilometers from three existing international airports - Tivat in Montenegro, Dubrovnik in Croatia and Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Two years ago, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina determined the basis for negotiations with the Government of Serbia on cooperation in the construction of the airport in Trebinje.

As stated, in this way the basis is established for the approach of the two states towards third interested parties and available sources for financing the construction of the airport, which will "enable a greater flow of people, goods, capital, services, and therefore economic development".

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has not discussed it so far, should also comment on this proposal by viewing the sessions of the Presidency on the official website.
