Journalists and media associations in Serbia yesterday invited their colleagues to support journalism students in front of their faculties in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš on Friday, December 20, where at 11.52:XNUMX a.m. they will pay their respects to the victims of the fall of the canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad.

The invitation to colleagues was sent by the Coalition for Media Freedom and the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), the Beta agency reported.

"Although we should be in the amphitheaters teaching them about the importance of freedom of speech, they are now giving us a lesson in the basic postulates of journalism - ethics, courage and solidarity. After the tragedy in Novi Sad, they prove to us that freedom of the media and freedom of speech are the basic pillars of every democratic society," said the statement of those associations.

The announcement adds that journalism is one of the key branches that the government is trying to usurp in order to implement its policy more easily, Beta says.

"Although there are still many shining examples in our profession, they have largely succeeded. We don't manage to get answers to the questions we ask, and those who can ask them, don't do it. Students are now asking the right questions for us and, in the style of excellent journalists, they don't give up until they get an answer to them," stated the Coalition for Media Freedom and ANEM.

"They try to get answers from the institutions, not from the top of the state, and stick to the premise that the truth can be unpleasant, but it is always less dangerous than the lies that hide behind silence," they stated.

They expressed their belief "that they will adhere to these lessons learned by force tomorrow, when they perform their profession".

In the announcement, they also condemned the behavior of the regime's media, stating that not only do they not report objectively and professionally, but they "constantly incite citizens against students and professors."
