The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija of the Government of Serbia, Petar Petković, stated in Brussels that the last obstacle has been removed when it comes to the application of the Declaration on Missing Persons.
After meetings with the EU's special envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajčak, and Kosovo's chief negotiator, Besnik Bisljimi, he emphasized the importance of that agreement, Belgrade media reported.
"We have the Declaration, we have the Rules of Procedure and we have now also agreed on a joint commission, which will provide support to the working group chaired by the International Committee of the Red Cross, as it has been until now," he said.
This, as he stated, is "what is significant and important for us, what Belgrade insisted on all the time".
"Even if there was no effort on our part, that agreement would not have been reached," said Petković.
He stated that Belgrade has always emphasized and said that the issue of the missing is not a political issue, but a purely humanitarian one, which must be resolved.
He also pointed out that the formation of the Union of Serbian Municipalities (ZSO) and the issue of de-escalation in Kosovo are also important issues.
"We spoke strongly and persistently about this and insisted at the bilateral meeting, but I also in a direct meeting with Mr. Bisljimi, whom I asked five times in a row whether Pristina supports the European draft statute," he said.
According to him, it is necessary to reach an agreement on the statute "as a concrete step" in order to move towards the formation of the ZSO.
He repeated that the ZSO is "very necessary for the Serbs" and that without the ZSO there is no survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo.
He also conveyed that the Serbian side emphasized that the persecution of Serbs by Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti must stop, especially in the North, as, and as he said, the terror of the Kosovo police.
