Student protest in Belgrade: "Your hands are bloody"

Students in Serbia blocked Trg Slavija in Belgrade today in a new protest. Farmers, actors and citizens joined them, filling the neighboring streets.

The protest started at 16:1 p.m., and after half an hour they paid their respects to the victims at the Railway Station in Novi Sad on November XNUMX with a performance - silence.

The crowd had previously shouted: "Your hands are bloody", "Vučić, go away", while after a 15-minute silence there was noise, i.e. a performance with which the demonstrators expressed their dissatisfaction.

The protests initiated by the students demand that all those responsible for the tragedy in Novi Sad be held criminally accountable, as well as that all those who attacked students during peaceful blockades be prosecuted.

Television N1 reported that all approaches to the square were full, and the journalist of that media had previously reported that the column may have extended beyond the St. Sava Temple.

The Ministry of Interior of Serbia claims: Between 28.000 and 29.000 citizens were present

The Ministry of the Interior of Serbia announced itself, claiming that "at the time of the highest attendance" there were between 28.000 and 29.000 citizens at the rally.

"The Ministry of the Interior announces that today's public gathering in Belgrade began around 15:15 p.m. and at the time when attendance was the highest, at 16:40 p.m., between 28.000 and 29.000 citizens were present," the announcement reads.

According to their statement, the rally ended without major incidents and disruption of public order and peace.

Based on available footage and photos, the Archive of Public Meetings determined that between 100.000 and 102.000 people gathered at the protest, the X network said.

"The recordings used to count the participants were recorded in the period between 16:45 and 17:00", according to the order of the Archive of Public Meetings.

A taxi driver knocked down a young man in front of the Assembly

A group of students and citizens who were protesting in Slavija went to the building of the Serbian Parliament.

They took with them banners that read "Freedom", "Everyone on strike" and shout "SNS mafia", "Hulja se ljulja" and sing "Get out little one".

Some participants of that gathering went towards the entrance to the Assembly, but stayed under the stairs at the ceremonial entrance to the parliament building, N1 reported.

An incident took place in front of the Assembly, when, as reported by that media, a taxi driver ran into one of the participants of the protest, and then ran away. The young man was transported to the Emergency Center.

The young man did not suffer serious injuries, according to the emergency team.

"The state is the property of children"

The students who were walking towards the square unfurled a banner: "The state is the property of the children".

A few days ago, SNS senior official Vladimir Đukanović said that children up to the age of majority are the property of the state, which caused a stormy reaction in the public. The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, then said that children are not the property of the state and will never be, but "beings who have their own rights."

Euroleague director Dejan Bodiroga was seen at a protest in the center of Belgrade, and the crowd greeted the trophy-winning basketball representative of Yugoslavia with a standing ovation.

Former soccer player Saša Ilić and former basketball player Marko Jarić were also at the protest.

The actors found themselves in front of the Yugoslav Drama Theater after gathering in front of their theaters. "We all stopped, I want to say to the people from the ruling party: You sent your members to beat the children of Serbia, shame on you," said Branislav Trifunović.

Actress Svetlana Ceca Bojković told N1 at the protest that "the youth has woken up".

Farmer Đoka Ćurčić said that the farmers came to Belgrade to support the students and that the events related to Zlatko Kokanović, who was taken by a tractor with the intervention of the police and gendarmerie due to allegedly illegal parking, did not scare them.

"We all came here because of Zlatko, because of our pupils and students. So we are waiting for everything they will say and we will do it as farmers, because here now is the problem of the system, the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Agriculture, where they threatened us on all fields," he said, as reported by N1.

Students and pupils also gathered in Niš.

Health workers also came to the meeting in Niš, and one of them addressed the crowd and told them to "persevere in the fight". She said that they "save lives, but now they also save the profession".

"Our work is for your benefit, but we also have a limit. We keep the system on its feet, and it keeps us on our knees, and when health care is on its knees, we are all on the edge. If we stop, health also stops. That's why we are persistent in Long live the youth, long live the students, long live all those who are for a better and brighter tomorrow," she said, as reported by N1.

More than a dozen health workers gathered at 16 pm on the square in Kragujevac, supporting students, farmers and their colleagues who are protesting in Belgrade today at Slavia.

"We gathered here to support our colleagues who are gathering in Belgrade, both students and farmers, to join all the demands of the students."

"The primary goal is to send a message that we are dissatisfied"

Petar Seratlić, a student at the University of Belgrade, said earlier today that the primary goal of the protest is to send a message that they are dissatisfied and that there are no plans for walks and speeches, reports N1.

"The plan is to gather today, to be silent, and to be a little noisy. For now, our struggle is a student struggle, but we see this as the struggle of the entire nation and we invite everyone to join us today," Seratlić told the media.

Commenting on the fact that there are rumors of possible incidents on social networks, he pointed out that it is always possible for incidents to occur at protests, but he doubts that they will be large.

He said that the students would never initiate the incident. "We are against incidents, but we will defend ourselves if necessary."

He added then that before the protest at 16 pm in Slavija, students, like every day, will pay their respects to the victims in Novi Sad at 11.52:XNUMX am.

Farmers and actors came to the protest as a form of support for the students. Together, they demand responsibility for the tragedy in Novi Sad and the prosecution of thugs who have been provoking peaceful blockades for weeks.

Farmers, who blocked roads in the previous days, and yesterday cooked goulash for students in Novi Sad's student town as support, are demanding the dismissal of Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, line minister and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Agriculture.

As announced, the initiative "The Bridge Remains", which opposes the removal of Belgrade's Old Sava Bridge, will join the protest. They invited citizens to join them.

University students in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac are in the blockade, and in the meantime, high school students have joined them.
