Thousands of students and citizens stood for 15 minutes in Novi Sad tonight, from 23.52:15 p.m. to seven minutes after midnight, in memory of the XNUMX victims of the tragedy at the main train station in Novi Sad.
A long line of students had previously come from the campus of the University of Novi Sad to Gradić, a suburb of the Petrovaradin Fortress.
At that location, students from the Academy of Arts performed songs, accompanied by piano.
The most emotional was caused by Balašević's song "The Night I Swimmed the Danube", which is the unofficial anthem of Novi Sad.
The gathered students and citizens turned on the lights on their mobile phones during the 15 minutes of silence, which, as they had previously said, symbolized their "fight against darkness."
The students previously moved along the route that leads past the Provincial Government building, and at the head of the column they carried the banner "It's time for a new time."
They also carried banners reading "Where does the train to Serbia stop without you," "Students give their grades," "We will carry new victories," and blew whistles and vuvuzelas.
Before that, they wrote New Year's wishes on paper with the citizens on campus, which they then left on improvised stretchers in Gradić.
"Let's remove the cobwebs from our eyes", "You can't pay us", "Peace, love, freedom", "I don't want a better country, I want this to be a better country", "For someone's better tomorrow", "To live freely", "Only the persistent and brave change", "I want not to be afraid to have my child here", are some of the New Year's wishes, and the entire exhibition is signed with "Student EXPO 2025".
As the students stated, the action was their way of marking the New Year according to the Julian calendar, with the slogan "You still owe us for the old one."
