Deputy Prime Minister of the Croatian Government and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Josip Dabro (Homeland Movement) has resigned, which he announced to the public via social media on the night from Friday to Saturday, Croatian Radio Television (HRT) reports.

He resigned after a video was released showing him firing multiple shots from a pistol from the passenger seat through the window of a moving car, for which he first apologized and expressed regret, adding that the incident occurred several years ago and that he had fired blanks in a "moment of thoughtlessness."

"I hereby submit my irrevocable resignation from the position of Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for moral reasons. During my mandate, I was guided by a clear vision and determination to introduce much-needed changes in the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, fighting irregularities and establishing transparent and fair relations in my department. However, in the process, I faced significant pressure and threats, and I am currently under police protection," Dabro wrote on his Facebook profile.

He added that although he is ready to continue his fight for the betterment of the department he led, he is aware that the circumstances he finds himself in create an additional burden for both the Government and his party.

"As a responsible man and public official, I believe that my personal situation should not distract from the key priorities of the Government and the department, nor slow down further reforms that are necessary. Therefore, with full conviction that this is the best decision for the common good, I am stepping down from my duties," he stressed, adding that he will remain dedicated to his profession and contributing to the community in other ways.

"I thank the Prime Minister for the trust he has shown, as well as all my colleagues, associates and citizens for their support during my mandate," concluded Dabro.
