The trial of the President of Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik and the acting director of the RS Official Gazette Miloš Lukić for failure to implement decisions of the High Representative in BiH, Kristijan Šmit, continued today at the Court of BiH.
In front of the Court of BiH, a large number of citizens and officials of RS are supporting Dodik, some with a banner with Dodik's picture.
The area around the Court of BiH is secured by strong police forces.
Dodik's lawyer, Goran Bubić, said on Tuesday that Dodik, the first defendant in this case, will testify at the trial today.
Dodik assessed on Tuesday that the trial would not end with a verdict, but would predetermine the "fate of BiH".
Dodik is accused of having signed, as President of the RS, in July 2023, a decree promulgating a law that would not publish or apply the High Representative's decisions in the RS. Under that law, decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH would also not apply in the territory of the RS. Dodik is charged under amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH imposed by High Representative Schmidt, which make failure to execute his decisions and failure to apply decisions of the Constitutional Court a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison and the possibility of a ban on holding public office.
