Serbia: Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office takes over corruption case at Novi Sad train station

The Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office of Serbia announced today that it has transferred the case of corruption related to works at the Novi Sad Railway Station, where 1 people died on November 15 last year, to the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.

Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac, as stated in the statement, has decided that the files of that case, which are being kept in the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad, will be delivered to the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.

It was also decided that the acting prosecutor from Novi Sad would be temporarily assigned to work and further proceedings in that case at the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.

Such a decision was made, as stated in the statement, because the established facts indicate a reasonable suspicion that criminal acts that fall within the jurisdiction of state bodies responsible for organized crime and terrorism were committed.

"We particularly emphasize that the procedure for determining responsibility for the loss of life of 15 people in the collapse of the Novi Sad Railway Station canopy, led by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad, continues independently and with the highest level of priority, and that we expect the indictment filed against 13 people to enter into force soon," the statement reads.

Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac, in a statement, invited representatives of the student protests to a meeting to consider the fulfillment of their demands, which are within the jurisdiction of the public prosecutor's office.
