Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Porfirije assessed today that the aim of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) verdict against the President of Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik is to nullify the democratically expressed will of the Serbian people and thereby delegitimize the existence of RS, and thus the existence of the entire Serbian people in BiH.
As stated in the SPC statement, the patriarch visited Dodik in Banja Luka today and appealed to all authorities to take responsibility for preserving peace, and to international military units (EUFOR) to do everything within their mandate to reduce tensions and antagonisms, and not to pose a threat to any of the communities.
The statement said that Dodik said on that occasion that the leadership of Republika Srpska is united and determined to use political and legal means to defend the Dayton Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the only possible framework for life in BiH.
He also assessed that the role of the church is of irreplaceable importance for preserving the identity of the Serbian people in these areas.
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo found Dodik guilty of failing to implement the decisions of the High Representative of the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and sentenced him to one year in prison and a ban on holding the office of President of Republika Srpska for six years, from the date the verdict became final.
