In the center of Belgrade, on Terazije, shortly before midnight on Friday, the last column of students arrived, from western and central Serbia, and walked to today's protest (Saturday) in front of the Serbian Parliament.
Kragujevac students placed a stylized banner on the street reading "Here is our infantry, from (the heart of) Šumadija."
Students from Kragujevac and Jagodina met with academics from western and central Serbia and together arrived at Terazije, which should be the last group arriving in Belgrade tonight.
They, like their predecessors who arrived on bicycles, on foot and on motorcycles, were greeted by students and citizens of Belgrade with shouts of "Pump, pump!" and applause, a Beta agency reporter reported.
A large number of students and citizens had been waiting since around 18.30:XNUMX pm for academics and other citizens who had come from various parts of Serbia to protest in front of the Serbian Parliament.
They gathered to the sound of whistles and vuvuzelas, chanting "Pump, pump!" and applauding, and occasionally shouting "Whoever doesn't jump is a student" - after the word "students" written illegibly on the fence of a school in Vojvodina.
Columns of people were on the sidewalk on both sides of the street, stretching all the way to the Yugoslav Drama Theater, or almost to Slavija, 1.700 meters away.
There were lightings of colorful torches.
Traffic was stopped on Terazije and in the surrounding streets, there were numerous student guards, but no uniformed police officers.
At the nearby Pioneer Park, where members of the "Student 2.0" association are camping and demanding a return to classes, police were on duty with equipment to break up demonstrations.
Those gathered at Terazije to welcome the guests also carried state and faculty flags, as well as banners calling for the fulfillment of student demands.
Students who are walking from the north, from several cities in Vojvodina, arrived from the direction of Zemun, and those coming from western Serbia from the direction of Obrenovac.
Many citizens greeted them from windows and terraces, and some shouted slogans and held up banners in support.
The first to arrive at Terazije were the people from Novi Sad and Niš on bicycles, welcomed on the red carpet where they received medals for their feat, as did everyone after them, followed by the people from Šabac and residents of other places between that city and Belgrade.
After greeting them at Terazije, they went to Republic Square for refreshments.
The students in the blockade are demanding the publication of all documentation on the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station and the dropping of charges against students, activists and citizens arrested and detained during previous protests over the tragedy in Novi Sad. They are also demanding the filing of criminal charges against all attackers of students, professors and citizens and a 20 percent increase in the budget for universities.
Government representatives believe they have met all the demands, while the students deny this.
