Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić assessed that last night the police in Niš "did their job very poorly", that is, they did not adequately respond to the incident when a group of citizens threw eggs and stones at members and officials of the Serbian Progressive Party.
Today, in Bojnik, as part of a tour of the Toplica and Jablanica districts, he stated that the police also did not react adequately "neither in Bogatić nor in many other places."
He said that after the events in Niš, he "didn't sleep", and that he believes he is to blame for the police not reacting more harshly to the numerous protests that have taken place in Serbia in recent months.
"(I am) guilty because I wanted the unification of the nation, to respect different opinions... And last night they chased women in Niš with oysters and eggs. I am grateful that the mayor (Dragoslav Pavlović) resisted their attacks, and this is done by the worst in Serbia, who do not consider Kosovo and Metohija to be part of Serbia, who believe that the Republika Srpska is a genocidal creation, who want the worst for Serbia. The competent state bodies will be able to be more harsh in protecting citizens (in the future). Either there will be a harsher response from all state bodies, or we will see which state bodies do not want to apply the law, we can no longer allow violence," Vučić said.
He added that he was surprised that "foreigners have succeeded in destroying the country so much with their dirty money," that every student protest so far has been organized "in a criminal manner" due to failure to register gatherings, and that "thug actions" are being recorded throughout Serbia.
The attack in Niš that Vučić commented on occurred last night, after the several-hour protest by students and citizens ended, and the student guards moved away from the park in front of the Officers' House and the surrounding streets.
