Goran Bubić, lawyer for Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik, confirmed that the first-instance verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was delivered this morning, sentencing Dodik to one year in prison and a six-year ban from holding the office of president for failing to implement the decisions of the High Representative in BiH.
Bubić told Radio Television RS (RTRS) that he would appeal the verdict, but that the decision to appeal had nothing to do with Dodik.
"The complaint has nothing to do with the president. He said he was no longer interested, but he did not revoke the power of attorney," Dodik's lawyer stated.
He added that the deadline for appealing is 15 days and that it can be extended for another 15 days at the request of the party.
The Court of BiH issued the first-instance verdict on February 26, and in order for it to become final, it needs to be confirmed by the Appellate Chamber of the Court of BiH.
