Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić assessed today that the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) would have already escalated if it were not for the influence of the international community.
"It is clear that without the involvement of European and world politics in BiH, certain escalations of conflict would have already occurred," Anušić told reporters in Zagreb after the panel discussion "Security in BiH - the Foundation of Peace and Stability" organized by the Coordination of Homeland Associations of Croats in BiH.
Anušić said that the latest example is what Milorad Dodik did and said.
He emphasized that Croatia, as a member of the EU and NATO, can be a factor of stability in times of political tensions in BiH, which, he added, in the event of instability could also affect Southeast Europe.
"A stable and secure BiH is a strategic interest of Croatia, because it is our neighborhood, we share the longest land border, and a country where 350.000 Croats live," Anušić said.
In a post on the X network, he emphasized that the Government and the Ministry of Defense will continue to strongly support BiH's Euro-Atlantic path.
Anušić emphasized that it is in Croatia's interest that there be no conflict anywhere in the region.
Asked about Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik, he said that Croatia's position is identical to Europe's.
He condemned Dodik's actions, saying that such behavior could lead to an escalation of the conflict and stressed that the efforts of the international community are keeping the situation stable.
