The Minister of Internal Affairs and the Director of Police of the BiH entity Republika Srpska (RS), Siniša Karan and Siniša Kostrešević, received the Commander of the EUFOR mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Florin-Marijan Barbu, for an inaugural visit.
The meeting concluded that the security situation in the RS is favorable and stable and that the current political situation has not affected the security situation in BiH, the RS Ministry of Interior announced on Monday, March 31.
"Minister Karan and the EUFOR Commander noted that the cooperation between EUFOR and the RS Ministry of Interior has been good so far and they emphasized their commitment to continue it in the coming period," the statement added.
EUFOR forces received reinforcements from the Czech Republic, Italy and Romania in the first half of March.
EUFOR forces, stationed in 17 locations across BiH, aim to protect the population and provide support to state authorities.
As previously announced, this is a preventive measure, following increased tensions in the country, due to the adoption of unconstitutional laws in the RS.
At the end of February, the RS Parliament passed a law banning the operation of state judicial and investigative institutions on the territory of that BiH entity.
The entity assembly passed the laws after the President of the RS, Milorad Dodik, was sentenced by a first-instance verdict before the Court of BiH to a year in prison and a six-year ban on holding office.
On March 17, the Court of BiH issued a central arrest warrant against Dodik, entity Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and the President of the RS National Assembly Nenad Stevandić, ordering each of the 16 police agencies in BiH to arrest them.
However, that has not happened yet.
They are suspected of attacking the constitutional order of BiH, and in the period before that they did not respond to summonses to give statements at the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
