Eighty students and members of the academic community set off by bicycle from the University of Novi Sad campus on their way to Strasbourg.
As the students previously announced, the ride will last for the next 13 days, and the journey is about 1.300 kilometers long.
Several hundred Novi Sad residents gathered on campus to see off the cyclists.
The plan is for the cyclists to pass through Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Germany and France, and they will also spend the night in Subotica.
Along the way, they will be assisted by mechanics, a medical team, as well as an escort of several vehicles that will transport spare parts, groceries, and the cyclists' personal belongings.
Among those who set off on the journey are representatives from the University of Novi Sad, Belgrade, Niš and Kragujevac Universities.
As specified yesterday at a press conference, this drive is directed towards the Council of Europe and the European Union, organizations "that play a key role in supporting democracy, human rights and the rule of law."
The idea is for students to introduce representatives of European institutions to the mission, their demands that have been blocking faculties for months, and the expectation is that their trip will provoke a reaction from senior EU officials.
Last night, a humanitarian sale of pljeskavica was organized on the campus of the University of Novi Sad, organized by the Initiative for the Survival of Serbian Farmers. On that occasion, 1.710 pljeskavica and three roasted pigs were sold, and 1,9 million dinars and 2.135 euros were collected for the students' trip.
In addition to farmers, there were also citizens who contributed by selling various products and handicrafts, and a total of 5.915 euros and 32 million dinars were collected at the entire humanitarian bazaar, which totals around 33.500 euros.
