German Minister for European and Climate Affairs Anna Luhrmann announced before arriving for a two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina that attacks on the constitutional order of BiH are unacceptable and that Germany, in cooperation with its partners in the European Union (EU), is working to introduce individual sanctions against those responsible for these attacks.
"Together with our partners in the EU and the Quint, as well as in the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), we are acting decisively against those responsible for these attacks. We have already taken financial measures in response to the situation. Also, in cooperation with our partners in the EU, we are working on additional individual sanctions against those responsible and have initiated steps in that direction," Luhrmann said, as reported by Sarajevo media.
She emphasized that Germany continues to stand firmly with all citizens of BiH, regardless of ethnicity or entity.
"We will not tolerate attacks on the functional and territorial integrity of the country," Luhrmann stressed.
According to her, BiH is currently going through the biggest constitutional crisis since the Dayton Peace Agreement came into force.
She warned that important reforms and the next steps in the EU accession process have been blocked, telling the citizens of BiH that their future lies in the EU and that they "should not let that message slip away."
"Now is the time to overcome the reform deadlock in order to enable progress in the EU accession process. The country's hopes and expectations lie in pro-European reform forces," the German minister stressed.
It was announced that Luhrmann will be in BiH from April 3 to 5 and that he will meet in Sarajevo with members of the BiH Presidency, the Chairwoman of the BiH Council of Ministers Borjana Krišta and the BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković, as well as the High Representative Christian Schmidt.
Meetings with representatives of opposition parties from Republika Srpska are planned in Banja Luka.
