The president of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) Milan Miličević and the head of the party's parliamentary group in the parliament of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity Republika Srpska (RS), Ognjen Bodiroga, met today in Banja Luka with the German Minister for European and Climate Affairs Anna Lirmann and conveyed to her that they support sanctions against corrupt and irresponsible politicians.
"Sanctions against the residents of Republika Srpska would greatly concern me and we do not want something like that. I expressed this concern to the minister, and she understood it well," Milicevic said, the SDS announced.
He added that, on the other hand, "sanctions imposed on corrupt and irresponsible politicians or companies linked to those politicians are reasonable for him."
"Such sanctions are justified and I support them, even if they are sanctions against me personally. We take the crisis very seriously, which directly reflects on all people living in Republika Srpska and BiH (Bosnia and Herzegovina)," stressed Milicevic.
He added that the SDS will do everything to improve the standard of living of citizens through funds, a growth plan, donations of various kinds that go towards serious projects in the RS and BiH, and that the path to Europe will be conditioned by protecting both the RS and the standard of living of the people who live there.
He said that they presented the position of the SDS and conveyed to the ministers that the goal was "to protect Republika Srpska from economic collapse, international blockades and the personal enrichment of individuals in power."
The president of the SDS once again reiterated that this party "does not support the adventurism of the government", assessing that "such a policy causes the most harm to Republika Srpska and the people who live here".
"What the government is doing is not in the interest of the people living in RS, nor in the interest of RS, it is only undermining the foundations of RS and any unpacking of Dayton in any way at this moment would mean endangering Republika Srpska, endangering the status of the Brčko District, and the regime, of course, is not thinking about that at all," said Milicevic.
According to him, the RS government is currently "thinking only about protecting their personal wealth, personal empires, to the detriment of everyone who lives in the Republika Srpska."
He added that SDS representatives do not meet with anyone "secretly, in some basements, in some hotels in Banja Luka", as some media outlets close to the government have reported, but rather talk to everyone "completely openly and publicly, because they believe that talks are necessary for everyone to be better off".
The RS government decided this afternoon to declare German Minister Anna Lirmann "persona non grata" in RS.
