German Minister for European Affairs and Climate Anna Lirmann said tonight that she and her delegation were threatened with violence by representatives of the President of Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik.
"Today I was in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a beautiful city with great people. The people I met there welcomed me warmly. I had a series of excellent meetings with civil society and the opposition," Ana Lirman posted in a video message on Instagram.
She pointed out that towards the end of her visit to Banja Luka, Dodik "once again demonstrated his destructive approach."
"His representatives threatened me and my delegation with violence. That is a sign of weakness," the German minister stressed, adding that Dodik's "secessionist actions are unacceptable."
Finally, she stated that she had received many messages of support from Banja Luka from people who, as she pointed out, were ashamed of Dodik's actions.
"I have a clear message to all the people in RS - we will continue to stand by your side, on your path to prosperity, stability and the EU," concluded Ana Lirman.
The RS government today declared German Minister Anna Lirmann "persona non grata" in that entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), after which she cut short her visit to Banja Luka and left RS.
The RS government stated that such a decision was made because Germany, together with Austria, banned Dodik, the Speaker of the RS Parliament Nenad Stevandić, and the RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković from entering those countries due to their secessionist actions.
