Student cyclists from Serbia, who have been riding the "Tour to Strasbourg: Pedaling for Truth" route for days, arrived in Munich, at Odeonsplatz last night.
In this German city in the province of Bavaria, they were welcomed by a large audience, including city officials, members of the diaspora, friends, as well as a choir that greeted them with the student anthem "Gaudeamus Igitur".
Through tears and laughter, the students were greeted by a red carpet, across which they proudly walked, pushing their bicycles or raising them above their heads in a characteristic salute.
Those gathered were also greeted by city councilor Andreas Wasserler, who said that he had come to honor them, because their desire is motivating thousands of people in Serbia who are taking to the streets.
"Many professional groups in Serbia stand in solidarity with you. Your engagement, your stance, and your journey from Novi Sad to Strasbourg are a strong sign - you are showing civic courage. It means that you are actively standing up for democracy - and that is what democracy is all about," Wasserler told the students.
The diaspora in Munich also showed unity. They came from different parts of the city and the surrounding area to greet and support the young people who, as they stated, are on the path of freedom, justice, and a shared vision of a better world.
The presence of the diaspora, banners, applause and hugs made Munich turn into their home last night.
The students continue their drive towards Ulm today.
