Prime Minister-designate for the new Serbian government, Đuro Macut, stated today, during the presentation of his program to MPs, that Serbia is tired of divisions and blockades, that work must be done to harmonize society, that harmony can be built through dialogue, tolerance, work and building a system of values, and said that his first priority will be the normal functioning of schools and faculties.
"The situation we have had in the last few months has shown that we must act immediately and change many things in this area. Protests and dissatisfaction are natural manifestations of the division of youth, but not blockades and denial of the right of others to work, to get an education, and to live normally. My obligation is to discuss all dissatisfactions on all levels, in accordance with the constitution and law, and to support young people in accordance with the constitution and laws. For me, all students are the same," said Prime Minister-designate Macut in his speech.
He added that when you deny others the right to movement and education, then you can talk about usurpers.
"Education reform is needed so that such divisions never happen again. Let us forgive if necessary and reconcile for the sake of Serbia," he said.
He emphasized that the key factors in education are students.
"We are building and leaving the state to them. Their orientations and actions should be ethical and fair, with established work habits, new and current knowledge, but also respect universal values, which are the authority of the elderly and their life experiences. It must be known who is a pupil, who is a student, and who is a professor," said Macut.
He also stated that he supports the position of the previous Prime Minister Miloš Vučević regarding the redefinition of the law on textbooks.
"Our children must have the highest quality educational resources in key subjects of national importance, which will be created by our most respected experts, and these textbooks must be equal throughout Serbia. This reform will encompass both the fields of education and science," the Prime Minister-designate stated.
He announced that he would propose the formation of a council within the Government of Serbia, which he would personally lead, and which would coordinate and lead the policy of promoting young talents.
Macut said that work with pupils and students must be planned and organized, in such a way that the state uses their talents for their and the general benefit, as well as develops and improves them.
He began his speech with the words of Miloš Obrenović from 1831 and said that the most important duty of those in power, but also of all citizens, is to serve the homeland and to work together and unitedly to achieve the goal of the common good and progress of our people.
"This duty affects all people, especially those who hold the most prominent state positions, but also every one of our citizens, be they farmers, students, professors, civil servants, soldiers, judges or any other profession. If we all have this feeling and if the interest of our country's survival is above all other interests, then we will happily fulfill all our obligations and hand over a better and more orderly Serbia to future generations," said Macut.
