Vučić: On the greatest Christian holiday and Orthodox holiday, they are trying to destroy the state and its foundations through violence

"Some people still mistreat those who think differently. They deny them the right to work and freedom of movement, they even forbid them to eat. They forbid them to broadcast their program. Whatever I think about that program, it is terrible and the messages sent to the people who work at RTS are horrifying," Vučić said.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić condemned the student blockade of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) and called on authorities to take "various measures" in the coming days to establish "public order and peace".

"I ask them to do so as much as possible without using force. When force is necessary, in that case, it should be the least possible in order to resolve matters," Vučić said in a video message on his Instagram account.

He accused students and citizens who support them in the blockade of RTS of "trying to overthrow the state and its foundations through violence on the greatest Christian holiday and Orthodox holiday."

"Some people still mistreat those who think differently. They deny them the right to work and freedom of movement, they even forbid them to eat. They forbid them to broadcast their program. Whatever I think about that program, it is terrible and the messages sent to the people who work at RTS are horrifying," Vučić said.

The blockade of the RTS building began on April 14, and students said it would last until a new competition for members of the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) is announced, or until RTS is shut down.

During the blockade, RTS adjusted its programming schedule, and the editorial board of that media outlet repeatedly called for an end to the blockade.

The public media service also announced that photos of their editors and journalists who present themselves as "enemies of the people" are being shared on social networks and posted in public spaces.

On the first channel of RTS on Friday, there was no Morning Program, but instead a feature and documentary program was broadcast during that time slot.

This is not the first blockade of a public media service.

In recent months, students have repeatedly organized protests in front of RTS, demanding objective reporting on their demands and actions.

Since November last year, they have been demanding responsibility from the authorities for the death of 16 people in the collapse of the concrete canopy of the Novi Sad Railway Station.
