Representatives of the Serbian List today, together with other members of the Kosovo Assembly, took an oath stating that they will "advocate for the protection and respect of the constitutionality, legality, sovereignty, territorial integrity, institutional integrity of Kosovo and the provision of guarantees of human rights and freedoms," the media reported.
The Speaker asked the MPs to stand while he read the oath to them, and then emphasized that they had to sign it for it to be valid. According to Pristina media, the oath was signed by everyone, including the MPs from the Serbian List.
The president of the Kosovo Journalists Association, Xhemail Redza, also claims that the party's MPs signed the oath, adding that they were allegedly "trying to hide it," reports KoSSev.
"The deputies of the Serbian List were desperately trying to hide that they were signing the oath, and the highest representatives Zlatan Elek and Slavko Simić were seen leaving the hall to do so. The parliamentary oath states that they will work to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo," Redža said.
He also released a video showing Simić leaving the parliamentary bench first with a paper in his hand, and then Elek doing the same with a folder.
The text of the oath read to the deputies by the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, reads:
"I, a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, swear to perform my duties with honor and dedication and represent the people with dignity, to work in the interests of Kosovo and all citizens, to advocate for the protection and respect of the constitutionality, legality, sovereignty, territorial integrity, institutional integrity of Kosovo and the provision of guarantees of human rights and freedoms, in accordance with the laws of the country. I swear," N1 reports.
