Members of the Investigation and Protection Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SIPA) attempted to arrest the President of Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik in East Sarajevo tonight, suspected of attacking the constitutional order of BiH, but they gave up due to threats from the RS police that they would protect Dodik with weapons, the Sarajevo portal Raport reported.
After that, SIPA members returned to their headquarters in East Sarajevo, where, as stated, they are considering further activities.
SIPA, as it is emphasized, received an order to arrest Dodik tonight, who arrived for a meeting at the RS Administrative Center in East Sarajevo, near SIPA headquarters.
They were prevented from doing so by the RS Ministry of Interior, including members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), who were escorting Dodik, the Sarajevo portal stated, adding that it turned out that there was a risk of using firearms and endangering the lives of members of police agencies, which SIPA members did not want to engage in.
Radio Television of the Republic of Srpska (RTRS) announced that three SIPA inspectors attempted to enter the Administrative Center of the Republic of Srpska in East Sarajevo this evening to serve an arrest warrant on the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, but were prevented from doing so by the RS police.
Dodik is suspected of attacking the constitutional order of BiH and the Court of BiH issued a central arrest warrant for him because he did not respond to the State Prosecutor's Office's summons to be questioned.
All police agencies in BiH were ordered to bring Dodik to the Court of BiH, which ordered his detention.
In addition to Dodik, a central arrest warrant has also been issued for RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković and RS Parliament Speaker Nenad Stevandić.
Radio Free Europe (RFE) reports that it has been confirmed to them that the RS Ministry of Interior prevented SIPA members from entering the building of the RS Government Administrative Center in East Sarajevo, where Dodik is meeting with representatives of the City of East Sarajevo.
This state agency said that SIPA members wanted to act on the order of the Court of BiH, and that no force was used, according to RFE/RL.
The Klix.ba portal states that it has been confirmed that SIPA members attempted to detain Dodik, and that members of the RS Ministry of Interior opposed this.
The Raport portal announced that members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), tasked with protecting Dodik, were also on site.
SIPA's headquarters are located in East Sarajevo.
Dodik is suspected of attacking the constitutional order of BiH and the Court of BiH has issued a central arrest warrant for him, because he did not respond to the State Prosecutor's Office's summons to be questioned regarding the adoption of laws prohibiting the work of some state judicial institutions and SIPA in the RS.
All police agencies in BiH were ordered to bring Dodik to the Court of BiH, which ordered his detention.
In addition to Dodik, a central arrest warrant has also been issued for RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković and RS Parliament Speaker Nenad Stevandić.
RFE/RL reports that the Court of BiH has asked Interpol to review the decision to reject the request to issue a red notice for representatives of the RS leadership.
The international criminal police organization, Interpol, did not issue an international red notice for Dodik and Stevandić, after the Court of BiH requested it of them on March 27.
The BiH Prosecutor's Office previously requested the issuance of an international arrest warrant, given that, as they state, Dodik and Stevandić "used their high-ranking positions in the RS, avoiding legally prescribed border control procedures, crossed the state border and left BiH."
Both officials have left BiH and returned to the country several times since the central arrest warrant was issued.
After a first-instance verdict in late February sentenced Dodik to one year in prison and banned him from politics for six years, the RS authorities adopted a series of laws prohibiting the work of state judicial and investigative bodies on the territory of that entity.
Dodik also claimed that Montenegro had also intervened to prevent Interpol from issuing a red notice for him and Stevandic.
Interpol Podgorica said on this occasion that Dodik is not a citizen of Montenegro, and that they could not object to the arrest warrant being issued.
