Students who have been blocking the premises of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) in Belgrade since April 14 reiterated tonight that their demand is to announce a competition for candidates for the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM), adding that if a competition is announced, they will withdraw from the blockade and return to their faculties.
Katarina Jevtić, a student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Belgrade, said in the show "Utisak nedelje" that they started the blockade of RTS with one goal - to announce a competition for candidates for the REM Council, which has not existed since November 4, 2024, the Nova.rs portal reported.
"We were not only targeted on RTS, but we were also the topic of stories in other media outlets with national coverage. We hope that they will announce it," said Jevtić, adding that in that case she would "pack her things and return to college."
Vanja Lukić, a student at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy at the University of Belgrade, added that "diversions and attempts to deviate from the topic were not successful."
"We are returning to the faculties, that was our request and if it is met, we will withdraw. We have great hope that this will be resolved, but we are aware that this is only the first step," said Lukić, adding that the students will continue to monitor the development of the situation.
Zoe Gavrilović, a student at the Faculty of Law at the University of Belgrade, said that it does not matter to them whose request it is to announce the competition, after the opposition requested a session of the Parliamentary Committee for Culture and Information, but that REM must do its job.
"It certainly doesn't matter to us whether the request is ours or the opposition's, what matters is that it is fulfilled. REM must respect the law and do its job. This is not the first blockade of RTS, we have repeatedly pointed out the problems with RTS. We will closely monitor progress, as we gathered then, we can do it again," said Gavrilović.
