Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he was not satisfied with the police's reaction during yesterday's incidents in front of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Novi Sad because, in his words, they did not do their job in protecting the dean of that higher education institution, Patrik Drid.
Vučić assessed that the task of the police during yesterday's protest in front of the faculty was not to "beat anyone up, but to enable the dean and his associates to enter their workplaces."
"What we saw yesterday in Novi Sad is naked evil. Those were horrific scenes, probably the most severe after those in Niš. I am not the Prime Minister or the Minister of Police, but I was somehow influential in not providing protection to that man. I also bear the blame for that as the President of the Republic," Vučić said after visiting the construction site of the "Iriški venac" tunnel on the Novi Sad - Ruma road.
He said that the dean of the Novi Sad Faculty of Sport and Physical Education was "lynched yesterday just because he wanted to enter his workplace."
"That brave man did not attack anyone, and some insiders hijacked the faculty that was given to him to manage in accordance with the Constitution and the law. They captured members of the physical and technical security, and as you heard from the dean, they pulled knives on him," the president said.
He reiterated that he would seek accountability "for everyone" who, in his words, had been destroying Serbia in the previous six months.
"The Serbian police are the only ones in the world that did not respond with serious use of force to such a brutal attack on the police officers and the dean, but rather with a push in which they received many more blows, bottles and stones on the heads. And then we witnessed genuine evil where the villains stopped ambulances, punctured their tires. What is going on in your head, how sick do you have to be to do something like that," Vučić asked.
