The Higher Court in Belgrade has lifted Grčić's detention.

"Grčić's detention was lifted because witnesses were questioned in the investigation, and given that the only reason for extending his detention was so that he would not influence unquestioned witnesses," court spokesperson Milica Velicković told Tanjug, RTS reports.

The Higher Court in Belgrade has lifted the detention of the mayor of Obrenovac and former acting director of the Serbian Electric Power Company (EPS), Milorad Grčić, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reports.

The media outlet states that Grčić and several other individuals are suspected of having committed various criminal offenses and of having damaged EPS by more than 100 million dinars and of having obtained material benefits for themselves and others in that amount, which they then funneled into legal financial flows.

"Grčić's detention was terminated because witnesses were questioned in the investigation, and given that the only reason for extending his detention was so that he would not influence unquestioned witnesses," court spokesperson Milica Veličković told Tanjug, RTS reports.

Businessman Aleksandr Papić and the ICT coordinator of JP EPS IM remain in custody

Grčić was arrested in mid-February on the orders of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade on suspicion that while he was the acting director of the Public Enterprise EPS, he and his associates damaged that public enterprise.

On that occasion, businessman Aleksandar Papić was arrested in connection with the withdrawal of money from the EPS Public Company, as well as 13 other people.

Chief Public Prosecutor Nenad Stefanović said at the press conference that 15 people had been arrested on suspicion of damaging EPS by more than a million euros.

"15 suspects have been arrested, including the current mayor of Obrenovac and the former acting director of EPS. An investigation will be conducted against these individuals due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they abused their official position and authority in connection with public procurement for the public company EPS and damaged that public company by more than one million euros, for which amount they obtained illegal material gain," Stefanović explained at a press conference held on February 12.
