First Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali, who was with the country's President Aleksandar Vučić when he fell ill in the United States, told RTS that Vučić had been discharged from the Military Medical Academy (VMA) in Belgrade and that he said he was feeling better.
Vučić has canceled all activities and obligations in the next few days; once he recovers, he will address the public, Mali said.
He added that Dr. Dragan Dinčić is the only one who has all the findings and information about the health condition of the President of Serbia, but that some of this data, for understandable reasons, is not being made public.
Mali pointed out that he and Suzana Vasiljević, who were with Vučić at the time he fell ill, did not experience the situation in the same way as Vučić. While the Serbian president described to doctors that everything lasted only a few seconds, Mali notes that to them it seemed like it lasted longer, RTS reports.
As he explained, they were preparing for an informal conversation between the two leaders when Vučić suddenly fell ill. He says that they had been preparing for the meetings in Florida for a long time and that their arrival in the US was very important, taking into account geopolitical tensions, the new American administration, tariffs, and sanctions against the Serbian Oil Industry.
"It was very important for us to try to solve as many of the problems that the citizens of Serbia are facing and that are important for economic development, the future of our country, in direct contact. And the Republican National Convention was a great opportunity. On the one hand, there was a dinner hosted by Donald Trump, where the president was supposed to attend. We were preparing for that informal conversation between the two leaders. That conversation was supposed to take place yesterday, but he suddenly felt unwell. It's hard for me to talk about it," Mali said.
He said that this is not the first time that Vučić has faced health problems, but he says he believes in his speedy recovery.
He pointed out that Vučić, as a "Belgrade native west of the Drina River," does not like to admit that he is having a hard time. He added that Vučić has been recommended by doctors to rest for a few days.
Mali told the citizens of Serbia that Vučić will not give up on his obligations and that this is the most important message.
Will Vučić go to Moscow?
Regarding relations with Washington, Brussels and Moscow, and Vučić's announced departure for the Victory Day celebrations in Russia on May 9, Mali notes that at this moment he cannot say whether he will go, due to his health condition, but he assumes that Vučić will keep his word, RTS reports.
"In the next day, two, three, when he recovers, he will address the public. One thing I can say is, knowing him, considering that he is a man of his word, he gave his word that he would be there, I assume that he will keep his word. But I cannot tell you that at this moment," said Mali.
Vučić suddenly fell ill during a visit to the United States, which is why he sought medical attention. After undergoing examinations, he decided to cut short his visit and return to Serbia, and upon his return, he was admitted to the Military Medical Academy.
Cardiologist and head of the Military Health Administration, Professor Dr. Dragan Dinčić, said in an address to the media that Vučić's health condition is stable and satisfactory. Dinčić added that it is not realistic to expect the Serbian president to fully return to his regular activities in the next few days.
