Two MEPs announced that they had handed over to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Mezzoli, a letter that student cyclists from Serbia gave them when they came to Strasbourg three weeks ago.
"We delivered the letter that students from Serbia handed to us with full trust three weeks ago when they traveled to Strasbourg by bicycle," wrote MEP Gordan Bosanac on IX.
He added that the fact that the students' demands reached the highest levels of the European Parliament is "an important step forward for all those who want a different, better Serbia."
MEP Irena Joveva also made the announcement, saying that the fight for justice for Serbian students "has reached another important point."
"With my colleagues in the European Parliament, we delivered the letters from Serbian students to President Roberta Mezzoli today. Their inspiring fight for justice has reached another important point today. Like them, we are for the rule of law, justice, accountability and democracy," Joveva wrote on X.
On April 3, around eighty students and citizens set off by bicycle from the University of Novi Sad campus to the headquarters of the European institutions in Strasbourg, in order to draw the attention of the European public to the students' demands and the situation in Serbia after the collapse of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad on November 1 last year. Over the course of 13 days, they traveled about 1.400 kilometers to Strasbourg.
MEPs are debating in Strasbourg the first report and resolution by rapporteur for Serbia Tonino Picula. The report will be voted on on Wednesday, May 7th.
