Most of North Macedonia was briefly without power in the early morning hours today.
As announced by the state-owned company Mepso (Macedonian Electricity Transmission System Operator), a defect and short-term outage occurred on the 110 kilovolt (kV) network in the early hours of today.
"The reason for this outage is high voltages on the 400 kV network throughout the region, which affected our system and caused a short-term outage of 400/110 kV power transformers in transformer stations," the statement reads.
It is emphasized that this is a regional and European problem faced by almost all transmission system operators due to low transit and electricity consumption during night hours and weekends during this period of the year.
"From the moment of the power outage, AD Mepso teams reacted quickly and within about an hour of the outage, the electricity supply in the country was normalized. AD Mepso teams continue to work on the full normalization of the stability of the power system," the company said in a statement (mepso.com.mk).
It is added that Mepso continues to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with transmission systems in the region to ensure stability in the system and the security of electricity supply to users.
