Three activists from Novi Sad, accused of allegedly attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, were released from prison today and placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring.
These are activists Mladen Cvijetić, Srđan Đurić and Davor Stefanović from the Movement of Free Citizens.
That decision was published on the Portal of the Courts of Serbia.
Students blocking the University of Novi Sad today celebrated the release of three activists from detention, which the Court of Appeal replaced with house arrest, and announced that they had won and that the two-week blockade of the court was over.
They blocked the court with a demand to release six activists from detention.
"They are returning to their families tonight. Mladen, Srđan and Davor - we are glad that we managed to fight for all of you, and for all the others, all 12, your freedom is our freedom and this is an attack on the freedom of all of us. We have not and will not forget you. We will fight for everyone. People, all together, until the end, the blockade of the court is over," the student told the crowd through a megaphone.
Six activists from the Movement of Free Citizens and the Students Against Authoritarian Government (STAV) organization have been in custody for more than two months, accused of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order for allegedly planning a raid on the Serbian Parliament and Radio Television of Serbia.
Earlier this month, the Court of Appeals in Novi Sad replaced the detention of professor and activist Marija Vasić, student Lazar Dinić, and activist Lado Jovović with house arrest, while the decision on Cvijetić, Đurić, and Stefanović was returned for reconsideration.
Six other activists from the STAV organization were abroad at the time of their arrest, where they remain today.
These are activists Mila Pajić, Doroteja Antić, Anja Pitulić, Branislav Đorđević, Jovan Dražić and Dejan Bagarić.
