Several people were injured tonight in a severe storm that hit parts of Istria, most notably the Rovinj area, Croatian media reported.
A severe thunderstorm accompanied by rain hit Rovinj and the surrounding area at around 19 p.m., stranding 30 yachts, uprooting numerous trees and injuring several people. The injured were taken to hospital by ambulance, where they received treatment, the Hina news agency reported.
According to data from the Croatian Civil Protection Service, there are more than 50 firefighters on the ground in Rovinj, and the worst situation is in the Amarin and Porton Biondi camps, where the wind has knocked down numerous trees, injuring several people.
The storm was also unpleasant in other parts of western Istria, especially in Fažana, Poreč, Umag and Vrsar, where major material damage was recorded.
The 24 hour portal reported that a German tourist was seriously injured in a lightning strike on the island of Cres.
