Serbian President and member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Aleksandar Vučić, said today that the government will not organize a rally on June 28, St. Vid's Day, in Belgrade, as it does not want clashes with the students on the blockade who have announced a protest for that day.

Vučić, appearing on the Morning News of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), said that government representatives do not want to raise tensions.

"We are thinking about Novi Sad, whether for June 28th or July 5th. We certainly want to avoid conflict because we are responsible people," said Vučić.

According to him, the SNS has never organized counter-rallies and will not do so on Vidovdan either.

Vučić said that in three months he would "physically defend the blockaders from attacks by the angry people."

On Saturday, students announced that they would organize a protest in Belgrade on St. Vid's Day, and on Monday, some media outlets reported that the SNS was also planning to hold a rally on the same day.

Vučić reiterated that the "color revolution" in Serbia has been defeated and assessed that the country is recovering economically.

"I am very happy about the positive development of the situation in the second half of the year. We will show seriousness in building Serbia, highways, science and technology parks and other projects," he said.

Speaking about the situation in higher education, he stated that those responsible "will be brought to justice."

"From those who destroyed our university and education system, to those who destroyed all other state institutions. So, from Radio Television of Serbia to the prosecutor's office, the judiciary, the police and many other things in the public sector. The time for responsibility is coming and that, I think, is the best news for the citizens of Serbia," Vučić added.
