The Croatian Government has urgently submitted the Bill on Amendments to the Act on Restricting the Use of Tobacco and Related Products for procedure, which introduces stricter monitoring and prohibition measures in line with the acquis communautaire, especially in the part relating to heated tobacco products.
The proposed law introduces a new term "heated tobacco products", and removes the previous exemptions for the use of flavorings in these products. This prohibits the use of flavorings in heated tobacco products, and regulates their labeling as tobacco products for smoking.
The law also prohibits the sale of nicotine products to persons under the age of 18, thus closing a legal loophole that allowed minors to legally purchase various nicotine products.
Additionally, the smoking ban in all enclosed public spaces is being extended to include heated tobacco products. The powers of State Inspectorate inspectors in implementing administrative and misdemeanor measures are being strengthened, and misdemeanor provisions are being adjusted to the introduction of the euro as the official currency.
As reported by Index.hr, the law stipulates that heated tobacco products that are already on the market can remain in retail until supplies run out, and no later than 90 days from the law's entry into force.
