Today, Serbia is celebrating St. Vid's Day, a religious holiday associated with numerous historical dates, including the Battle of Kosovo in 1389, and several events have been announced throughout the day - from a student protest at the Slavija, a literary evening in front of the House of the National Assembly, the awarding of decorations, to a ceremonial session of the Serbian government in Kruševac.
The students in the blockade have announced a protest "See you on Vidovdan", which will begin at 18 pm on Slavija Square in Belgrade and which, in the official part, should last until 21 pm.
On the eve of the protest, they delivered two ultimatums to the Serbian government - calling for early parliamentary elections and stopping the rallies in Pionirski Park and Trg Nikole Pašića Street, which they demand be fulfilled by 21 p.m.
In an open letter to the government, they stated that "a large number of dissatisfied citizens are expected to attend the protest in Belgrade," and that "they cannot predict the citizens' further steps after the official end of the rally."
Ahead of today's rally at Slavija, various universities in the blockade, citizens' assemblies, and even cyclists' associations have announced gatherings in many parts of the city starting at 15 p.m., after which a walk to the protest is planned.
The central point for those coming from New Belgrade will be at the "Ušće" shopping center at 16.30:17 PM, and the procession will move across the Gazela Bridge, gathering at Republic Square at 16.40 PM, at the "Aleksandar Nikolić" hall (former Pionir) between 17:XNUMX PM and XNUMX PM.
The arrival of cars from several parts of Serbia has been planned and organized, and it is still unknown whether trains will operate, after the company "Srbijavoz" suspended rail traffic yesterday due to an alleged report of bombs placed on all tracks and in all trains.
On the other hand, a literary evening has been announced at the "students who want to learn" camp in Pioneer Park, which, according to media reports, will also be attended by the newly elected president of the National Theatre's Board of Directors, director Dragoslav Bokan, historian Goran Šarić, retired general Milorad Stupar and others.
The exact time of the event, or when the literary evening could begin, was not specified, but it was announced that a small stage would be set up, the installation of which began last night, across the park - on the plateau in front of the National Assembly Building.
At the Palace of Serbia, at 10 a.m., Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will present awards to deserving individuals and institutions on the occasion of Vidovdan. As reported by the media, the recipients will include the dean and full professor of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Novi Sad, Patrik Drid, full professor of the Faculty of Law and judge of the Constitutional Court, Vladan Petrov, as well as former football referee and director of the Second School of Economics in Belgrade, Dejan Nedić.
On Vidovdan, musician Nenad Janković, better known as Nele Karajlić, as well as journalists from Informer television Branka Lazić and Dragana Ćendić, will be honored, among others.
The Serbian Government will hold a ceremonial session on the occasion of Vidovdan at the City Hall in Kruševac at 11 am, while at 12 pm a state ceremony will be held on the Kosovo Heroes Square in Kruševac to mark the holiday and the 636th anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo.
It was announced that Prime Minister Đuro Macut will lay a wreath at the Memorial to the Heroes of Kosovo.
