United States President Donald Trump said that Serbia was preparing to go to war against Kosovo this year, but that his administration prevented the conflict by threatening Belgrade with a trade embargo.
At a press conference at the White House, Trump said that the United States has stopped or prevented conflicts on several sides in recent months, including Serbia and Kosovo.
"I have a friend in Serbia and he told me, 'We're going to war again.' I'm not going to say it's Kosovo, but it is Kosovo. They were supposed to have a big war, but we stopped it because of trade. They want to trade with the United States. I told them we don't trade with people who go to war," Trump said in the Oval Office.
At a joint press conference with the foreign ministers of Congo and Rwanda, after the two countries reached a peace agreement brokered by the US, Trump indicated that he was also responsible for peace among other warring parties.
"This is an incredible achievement. In just a few months, we have achieved peace between India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and several others. You know, Serbia was about to go to war with the group. I'm not going to mention that because it didn't happen, we were able to stop it," Trump said.
