Doctor of Political Science, professor, publicist and analyst Vladimir Goati passed away today, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reported.

Vladimir Goati, born in 1939 in Mostar, was a political scientist, sociologist and analyst of political and social processes in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia.

He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade in 1973 and throughout his career he studied political parties, the electoral system, corruption and the transition to democracy.

He began his career as a researcher and lecturer, and established himself as a scientist at the Center for Political Studies and Public Opinion at the Institute of Social Sciences, where from 1976 to 1983 he was the director of the Center for Public Opinion Research, and from 1983 to 1989 he headed the business board of the Institute of Social Sciences, RTS reports.

He was also the president of the Institute's Scientific Council from 1990 to 2003, and he lectured by invitation at the universities of Ljubljana, Bordeaux, Podgorica and Belgrade. He was also a member of the Anti-Corruption Council.

Goati was the founder and long-time president of the non-governmental organization Transparency Serbia, the national branch of the global network "Transparency International", and his work was focused on building accountability and control mechanisms in the political system.

Since 2023, he has also headed the Belgrade board of the Party of United Pensioners, Farmers and Proletarians (PUPS).
