Novi Sad Mayor Žarko Mićin expressed hope this morning that a protest like last night's in front of the building where he lives will not happen again, adding that on the other hand he is encouraged by the fact that he did not see opposition politicians at that protest.
"What encourages me a little, to be honest, is that I haven't seen opposition councilors and MPs. It seems to me that as professional politicians, they understand that leaving in front of a family home is something that is not done," Micin told Pink television.
He added that this demonstration will not sway him and that he will continue to fight for Novi Sad and for "all those fellow citizens who were not in front of his home yesterday, putting on performances and harassing him and his family."
"Horrible scenes. We were scared, not me as much as I was scared for my children and family. I hope this never happens again. This is something that is not done and has never been done," said Micin, adding that he is always open to dialogue and that he will never run away and hide.
He stated that the demonstrators in front of his front door took a doormat with the word "Mićin" written on it, which they trampled in front of the building, and that they "stuck a toothpick" in the intercom, which was ringing non-stop.
In addition to the building of the current mayor of Micin, a protest was held on Tuesday in front of the building where the former mayor of Novi Sad, the current president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and advisor to the President of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, lives.
