Serbia: Detention for Vesić, Momirović and other suspects in the railway reconstruction case

The Higher Court in Belgrade has ordered 30 days of detention for 13 suspects, including former Serbian government ministers Goran Vesić and Tomislav Momirović, in the case of the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station and the reconstruction and modernization of the Novi Sad - state border (Kelebija) railway, N1 reports, stating that this was confirmed in that court.

The suspects have three days to appeal the decision, the High Court says.

The Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (TOK) in Serbia announced yesterday that it had questioned 12 suspects in the case, including former Serbian Minister of Transport Tomislav Momirović, former Assistant Minister of Transport Anita Dimovski and former Director of the Serbian Railway Infrastructure Nebojša Šurlan, and that they all denied guilt.

The suspect, former minister Goran Vesić, was not questioned by the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, as medical documentation was submitted stating that he was undergoing hospital treatment. According to unofficial information, according to N1, he was detained on two grounds: possible influence on witnesses and public disturbance.

Yesterday, the prosecutor also requested detention and an arrest warrant for the suspect Goran Rosić, the responsible person of "Teco" doo.

All of the aforementioned are suspects in the investigation of the Financial Flows Investigation Task Force related to the project Modernization and Reconstruction of the Hungarian-Serbian Railway Line Novi Sad-Subotica-State Border (Kelebija). As previously announced by TOK, they are suspected of having, by concluding Annex 1 of the Commercial Agreement, Agreement 1, and Annexes 2,3, 4, and 1.214.100.460,43 of the Commercial Agreement, enabled the contractor CRIC – CCCC to invoice the financier and investor for the total value of the work performed on the project so far in the amount of 64.258.060 dollars, as well as to carry out additional work for which the obligation of subsequent payment upon invoicing was assumed in the amount of XNUMX dollars.

"Thus, they obtained material gain for the contractor CRIC - CCCC, in the value determined so far of at least $18.759.287, and caused damage to the budget of the Republic of Serbia in the amount of $115.558.520,43, which represents the difference between the assumed financial obligations for the budget of the Republic of Serbia and the contractual price from the Commercial Contract," TOK announced after the arrest.
