The Higher Court in Belgrade has replaced the detention order with house arrest for former Serbian government ministers Tomislav Momirović and Goran Vesić, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reports.

Momirović and Vesić were initially ordered to be detained for up to 30 days, but the court overturned that decision and ordered them to be placed under house arrest.

They are suspected of having, together with other arrested persons, committed corruption-related crimes during the project "Modernization and reconstruction of the Hungarian-Serbian railway on the route Novi Sad-Subotica-state border (Kelebija)", damaging the Serbian budget by more than 115 million US dollars.

As stated earlier in the statement by the prosecution, by concluding Annex 1 of the Commercial Agreement, Agreement 1, and Annexes 2, 3 and 4 of the Commercial Agreement, the suspects Momirović, Vesić, Dimoski, Šurlan and Katanić enabled the contractor ''CRIC - CCCC'' to invoice the financier and investor so far with a total value of the work performed on the project in the amount of 1.214.100.460,43 dollars, as well as to perform additional work for which the obligation of subsequent payment upon invoicing was assumed in the amount of 64.258.060,00 dollars.

In this way, as is suspected, they obtained material gain for the contractor ''CRIC - CCCC'', in the value determined so far of at least 18.759.287 dollars, and caused damage to the budget of the Republic of Serbia in the amount of 115.558.520,43 US dollars, which represents the difference between the assumed financial obligations for the budget of the Republic of Serbia and the contractual price from the Commercial Contract.
