Subjecting a court verdict to a public vote is contrary to the rule of law and the independence of judicial bodies, the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) said.
They said this after the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NARS) adopted a decision to call a referendum on the ruling of the Court of BiH that stripped RS President Milorad Dodik of his mandate.
"The verdict of the Court of BiH in the case against Milorad Dodik is final and binding and must be respected. Subjecting the court verdict to a public vote is contrary to the rule of law and the independence of judicial bodies," the EU Delegation said, Radio Free Europe reports.
It is stated that the EU expects the RS authorities to refrain from further provoking crises and destabilization, as well as to act in accordance with the Constitution and laws of BiH.
"We expect the RS authorities to de-escalate the situation and respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional and legal order of BiH," the EU Delegation to BiH stated.
