Students blocking the University of Novi Sad faculty said today that last night "the police carried out some of the most brutal attacks on their own citizens - those they have a duty to protect."
"Scenes of police beating both women and men, young and old, as well as raids on higher education institutions, have shown that the violence was planned, not provoked," the students' statement reads.
They assessed that those who "ordered last night's barbarity are aware that an institutional resolution of the crisis would lead them to life imprisonment and are ready to sacrifice Serbia in order to save themselves."
"See you again. It seems there are too many of us after all. You will answer. You will answer. You will answer. 6. 9. 2025," the statement reads regarding yesterday's police violence.
The students also say that last night's events "put an end to all false symmetries" and "neutral" analyses of mutual guilt, as well as to one phase of the development of the situation in Serbia, while the behavior of the student movement was openly directed towards de-escalating the aggravated situation.
Last night, the students add, there was unequivocal proof that a peaceful resolution to the crisis is impossible if only one side wants it.
"The time for appeasing our captors has come to an end," the students said.
They called on all citizens to be on alert, and all institutions to break their silence and advocate for a democratic and institutional resolution of the crisis "in the final moments when it is still possible", in order to avoid "the abyss of civil conflict that Aleksandar Vučić tried to start last night".
