How is it possible that the state was unaware of the existence of Russian paramilitary camps on the territory of Serbia from July to September this year? Two suspects were arrested on Friday, and are suspected of training more than 150 citizens of Moldova and Romania to cause unrest after the elections in Moldova, which will be organized today. According to BIRN, the participants of the pro-Russian, special training stayed in the "Suncana Reka" complex, an ethno village on the banks of the Drina River.
The ethno-village "Sunčana Reka" has a lot to offer. Guests can enjoy the energy of nature and the coast of dreams, brick and wooden houses, luxurious wellness and relaxing spa treatments.
According to BIRN, more than 150 Moldovans and Romanians used the complex for something else - learning how to cause unrest in Moldova after the elections. And they did so for weeks, almost under the radar.
How this is possible is not clear, especially considering the names associated with the paramilitary camp.
"It seems to me that the whole story revolves around the 'Serbian-Russian Friendship' society. The first man in that organization was Milivoje Miletić, who was the director of 'Viscoza', and Zoran Mirković, who owns 'Sunčana reka', is therefore a member of that association. The others were also known for their pro-Russian stances in public, including Savo Stevanović, but also this other man who is linked to Minister Popović," says Miroslav Mijatović from the Podrinje Anti-Corruption Team.
N1 tried to ask the management of "Sunčane Reka" what information they have. They say they don't have time, they will announce it in the next few days.
The question is whether the authorities would have spoken out about the arrest of the leaders of the paramilitary camp if the Moldovan president had not first alarmed the entire world about the events in Serbia and if the Party of Freedom and Justice had not also demanded answers, states its vice president Marinika Tepić.
So he demands the resignation of the heads of the BIA, VBA, the police director, and the Minister of the Interior.
"If we have services that know how citizens, students, opposition leaders breathe, but don't know that they have 200 paramilitaries under their noses, no one really believes that. Which, of course, raises the question - did the state leadership itself know all this? I'm thinking, of course, specifically of Aleksandar Vučić," says Marinika Tepić.
Who from New York responds - the state didn't wait or hide anything, it's just that Tepić doesn't know that the police statements come much later after the suspects' arrests.
"And someone from the prosecutor's office who delivered it, out of all those participating in the colored revolution, thought that they would do something terribly important by doing so. Because Serbia, as a 'Russian servant', must not arrest those who blatantly and openly violate its laws and, of course, they were wrong again," said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
"I think he is trying to neutralize it internationally, and also to somehow explain that it is unimportant and that the state is doing its job, so that we don't open the question of whether the same is being prepared in Serbia for November 1st. And that is why I think it is very important that we talk about it as much as possible, so that we don't allow him to 'wash himself'," says Marinika Tepić.
At the international level, "laundering" will be difficult.
Because the arrest of individuals who spent two months training foreigners in Serbia to react in the event of an unfavorable election result for pro-Russian forces in Moldova, member of the Forum for International Relations Dragana Filipović sees it as saving reputation, when everything has already been leaked to all sides.
"That is a top security issue - how can a foreign service be doing such a job here with the help of our citizens? It certainly does not bode well for us being so stable and safe if something like that can happen to us," says Filipović.
And what will happen in Moldova and whether the "course from Serbia" will have an impact on the outcome of the elections - will be known as early as Sunday evening, after the polling stations close and the votes are counted.
