Novi Sad high school students and citizens' assemblies will mark on Wednesday, October 1, 11 months since the collapse of a canopy at the reconstructed Novi Sad Railway Station, when 16 people died and one person was seriously injured, by delivering mail from 11:52 to 12:08 at several locations in the city.
During that period, high school students will take to the streets in silence in front of the Mechanical, Chemical and Traffic Schools, as called for by the students of the "Jovan Jovanović Zmaj" Gymnasium who teach at those schools.
"In those 11 months, no one was held accountable for the lives of 16 innocent people. In front of the Mechanical, Chemical and Traffic Departments, our students, together with their peers, will come out and observe 16 minutes of silence. We hope to see you in as many numbers as possible," their invitation states.
Their peers from the "Mileva Marić Einstein" Technical School will mark 11 months since the accident at the intersection in front of their school in Braće Ribnikara, which they have been doing every day since the beginning of the school year.
Students from the "7. April" Medical School also called for a memorial service in front of their school, on Cara Dušana Street.
Graduates of the "Svetozar Miletić" School of Economics and the "Svetozar Marković" and "Isidora Sekulić" high schools called on all students, professors and citizens to observe a 16-minute silence at the monument to Svetozar Miletić in front of the City Hall.
At the same time, the Novi Sad Choirs called for a commemorative gathering in front of the Railway Station at 11:52.
"There is no force or power that can bring the 16 murdered souls back under the canopy. But equally, there is no force that can stop us from seeking justice for them," the choirs said.
And for the evening at 6:30 PM, a rally has been announced on the campus of the University of Novi Sad, to which students have invited.
"It's been 11 months since the crime, and those responsible have still not been held accountable," the students said in a post on social media.
Since every month, on the full moon day since the accident, a walk is organized from the campus to the Railway Station, where a 16-minute silence is observed in memory, the assumption is that this will be the case tomorrow as well.
