The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has ruled that Milorad Dodik has the right to hold office in the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD).
The Court of BiH has informed the Central Election Commission of BiH (CIK) that it has rejected the appeal of the president of the opposition Justice and Order List, Nebojša Vukanović, because the CIK certified the candidacy of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) for the early presidential elections, which was signed by Milorad Dodik as the leader of that party.
The CEC confirmed to Radio Television of Republika Srpska (RTRS) that the Court of BiH informed it that Vukanović's appeal had been rejected and that Milorad Dodik had the right to serve as party president.
Vukanović filed an appeal with the Court of BiH four days ago, stating that he is requesting that the SNSD's candidacy for the early presidential elections be challenged in accordance with the final court verdict, which sentenced Dodik to one year in prison and a six-year ban on holding public office.
The CEC did not provide the state court's reasoning for rejecting Vukanović's appeal.
The High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, had previously decided to ban funding for the SNSD and United Srpska from the budget, and then the ruling coalition in the RS in the entity parliament banned funding for all parties from the budget.
On this basis, Dodik can remain at the helm of the SNSD, because the party is not financed from the budget.
Vukanović previously accused Schmidt of "destroying the opposition".
"He left the entire opposition without any income, while allowing Dodik to have all the resources. He still flies around in a helicopter, he doesn't respect any decisions," said the leader of the Justice and Order List.
